- open the &quot;appearance&quot; tab
- click on the little downward pointing arrow (top right corner) and choose &quot;add new stroke&quot;
- modify the stroke to whatever you choose, then in the appearance pallet drag the stroke below the &quot;characters&quot; line
- done! And the stroke is still editable.</description>
