Dithapelo Kgonyane: I agree, packaging contributes a lot to creating an image around a product. And consumers sort of draw up certain expectations from the image created by the package, especially when coming to the quality of the product.

Sale and quality starts from the package, customers assume that the image created by the package resembles the quality of the product inside.

Packaging is everything Mokokoma.

James Kurtz III,

You're NOT being a fanboy, I totally agree with you. Apple is one of the few brands that are truly consistent to their brand image in all possible areas of their business, which includes their stores interior and products packaging.

Not trying to be a fanboy or anything, but another example of a brand with great packaging is Apple. The REALLY interesting part about their packaging is that you don't even see it until AFTER you've made the purchase. It reinforces the fact that good packaging is not just to protect the contents or to even sell the product. It's about creating a brand experience (or at least it can be when done right).

Sonja Marnewick,

I agree, great packaging does way more than just protecting its content.

Imagine how tough (if not impossible) it would be for one to make a choice between two different rice brands if they weren't packaged.

How would they then identify their preferred brand over the other?

Thanks for sharing your views.

Mokokoma, you are reiterating exactly my thoughts expressed on my blog packaging is so much more than just cling wrap and tissue paper, it reinforces brand awareness and doubles up as advertising, while making sure your product gets to the intended market in a neat and presentable way. Huray for gift packaging!
