How I kicked whites out of the Forum of Black Journalists without saying a word!

…And I’m not racist. I’m just a visual poet at work!
There is currently a huge debate in the country on whether South Africans should condone how Forum of Black Journalists “kicked-out” their white colleagues at the forum’s function attended by The President of the ANC two weeks or so back.
I played with letters of the name Forum of Black Journalists on my personal project words theater, where I try to use nothing but the letters or words themselves to convey their meaning and intended effect.
I removed all white(s) from the name Forum of Black Journalists – letters: O, B, A. The end result is the Forum of Black Journalists with no white(s).

The only white (colour) serves as negative space, and I used it to represent whites (in the industry) surrounding the forum but with the white(s) not being part of the Black Journalists Forum.
.
The above is just me playing around with the 23 letters and one of our country’s current racial debate. I however don’t aim at condoning any exclusion of particular group based on their skin colour.

Very clever!
coda,
Thanks for the compliment – it’s much appreciated!
oleee,
Without saying a word!
i like ur ideas Mo!
The headline got me to notice you “simplicity addict” – really smart! Doesn’t it just get to you that most people have so little regard for typography- and its power?
Yasser,
I’m glad you do, thank you very much.
Karen,
I agree with you, most people aren’t aware of the power typography has.
That is so very not serious, plz. i am from zim and this white black stuff i don’t like
if ur post was about finding a communion i would love u more, but its not it though
find similarities dude not differences
Mushane,
Firstly, the fact that you’re from zim is of no value to your comment therefore it was unnecessary as racism affects not only zim but the entire world.
Secondly, I clearly mentioned in the post that I’m in no way encouraging any racism.
The above is just me illustrating the power typography has.
To make it simpler for you, just think of my above work as a cartoonist illustrating one of south africa’s current affairs difference being that I used the letters themselves instead of cartoon characters to convey my message and achieve the intended effect.
On you suggesting I find similarities not differences: I believe God made us different for his reasons and we should therefore celebrate our differences rather than ignore them!
Racism only begins when we make judgment or decision based on skin colour.
And on you loving more: personally I design for the love of it. I don’t design to be loved!
Thank you for voicing your opinion.
To hell with racism! Lets all rule the world!
John-John,
Viva!
I know it’s late of me to gabblegook on this comment…,Quiet an impressive angle to get us busy browsing your website Mokokoma, big ups…,but then could you please explain what do you mean by your response “Viva!”? how do you relate with the statement “How i kicked whites out…”? as a motivation to your response(“viva!”).
Firstly, “viva” was my response to the comment said by John-John,
Viva is used to express acclaim or support a person or thing, in my case I was simply expressing my support to John-John’s comment.
Thanks for your compliment on the “angle”.

Great communication!
I’m one of those on the outside looking in on this one
You’ve outdone yourself this time. Truly Rosebank is a long time ago. I’ll be spending more time checking out your “simplicity”.

To hell with racism, what an eye caching headline i must say. I’m not trying to be difficult but i think as black journalists it’s time for us not to be undermined, but to be treated equal with the white journalists. You rock! and what a nice colour combination of the flag – black and white flag, it makes you want to think more about the colour coordination. You rock.
